Ōishi Yoshio

1659–1703

Ōishi Yoshio, commonly known as Ōishi Kuranosuke, was the chief retainer of Asano Naganori. He organised the former Akō samurai who killed Kira Yoshinaka in 1703 and then surrendered, receiving a sentence of seppuku that helped turn the incident into a powerful legend of loyalty and revenge.
