The Tarnished Crown

The Tarnished Crown follows Isobel Fenton, later Isobel Langton, and Robert Langton through the political reversals of Edward IV’s reign. Beginning with Warwick’s rebellion in 1469, the series places their struggle for Beaumoncote Manor, marriage and family security inside the conflicts that divide the Yorkist court and repeatedly overturn the government of England.

The novels move from the Battle of Edgcote and the Readeption of Henry VI to Edward IV’s restored rule, the rivalry between his brothers George and Richard, and Clarence’s fatal break with the king. Isobel and Robert are fictional participants whose private loyalties are tested by land disputes, captivity, dynastic propaganda and court service. Their story shows how civil war continues inside households even during periods officially described as peace.
