The Woman in the Veil
First published 2020
London, June 1890. Sarah Bain photographs what appears to be a murdered woman on the Thames embankment, only to discover that the mutilated victim is still alive. The press names her Sleeping Beauty, and three different parties claim her as a wife, sister or mother.
When the survivor wakes with amnesia and recognises one claimant, Sarah believes the identity question has been solved. A new murder proves otherwise and places Sarah, Hugh, Mick and Detective Sergeant Barrett under suspicion. They must reconstruct the woman’s history before another interested family controls her future—or sends the investigators to the gallows.
