The Ripper’s Shadow
First published 2017
London, 1888. Photographer Sarah Bain supplements her income by producing discreet portraits of women who work in Whitechapel. When two of her models are murdered, she believes their deaths are part of the series attributed to Jack the Ripper and begins an investigation the police neither welcome nor trust.
Sarah is joined by street boy Mick O’Reilly, Lord Hugh Staunton and friends whose lives place them outside respectable Victorian society. Their access to victims and witnesses reveals evidence unavailable to official investigators, but Sarah’s own secrets make her vulnerable. Finding the killer may require admitting how much she knew before the murders began.
