The Serpent Dreamer (the Life and Times of Corban Loosestrife)

Corban returns to Vinland after his service in the Danish succession struggle and finds that the colony has been destroyed and his wife is dead. Mav, the twin whose mind has always touched his own, has become an uncertain presence between the living world and the spirit realm. Alone among unfamiliar peoples, Corban seeks shelter with the Wolf Clan, whose members value his iron blade and knowledge of fire but distrust his foreign appearance and inexplicable visions.

A healer’s affection offers him a place within the community, while the chief Miska regards Corban as a threat to authority and tradition. Violence between neighbouring clans and a vision that Corban cannot ignore force him to decide whether survival means submission, flight or another journey. The novel places a Viking-age traveller within an Indigenous North American world and uses its supernatural elements to explore grief, cultural misunderstanding and the unstable boundary between knowledge and magic.
