Pillar of the Sky

Moloquin, an unwanted child living at the edge of his community on Salisbury Plain, grows into a shaman driven by a vision of joining the human world to the sky. Karella recognises his ability and helps him gain a place among people organised through hunting, farming, ritual and the authority of kings and matriarchs. Moloquin’s plan to raise an unprecedented circle of stones demands labour, belief and control over resources that no single settlement can provide.

As the monument grows, rival communities challenge both Moloquin’s spiritual claims and the political order forming around the work. Quarrying, transport and construction become acts of collective faith as well as sources of coercion and war. The novel imagines the building of Stonehenge through fictional prehistoric lives, using the structure to explore leadership, technological innovation, sacrifice and the social transformation required to create a monument intended to outlast its makers.
