The Mayflower Bride
In 1620, Separatist Mary Elizabeth Chapman leaves England aboard the Speedwell in search of religious freedom. Carpenter William Lytton joins the Mayflower for more practical reasons and accepts secret work from a Virginia Company agent who wants him to observe the new colony’s management and protect its commercial interests.
Storms, the failure of the Speedwell and the late Atlantic crossing leave both travellers exhausted before they reach Cape Cod. Hunger, illness and suspicion then threaten the settlement through its first winter. As Mary and William grow closer, he must decide whether loyalty to his employer is worth becoming a traitor to the vulnerable community struggling to survive.
