Book
The Lost Prince
In November 1485, Hawker and his companions are in Venice when the Hungarian noblewoman Maria Hunyadi asks them to rescue her father from a remote Wallachian fortress. She claims the prisoner is Vlad III, the ruler remembered as Vlad the Impaler, who was reported killed in an Ottoman ambush nine years earlier.
The journey takes the company through the Hungarian frontier and Saxon Transylvania, where local rivalries, Ottoman pressure and doubts about Maria’s identity make the rescue increasingly uncertain. Hawker must discover whether Vlad is alive, why powerful interests want him hidden and whether freeing him would save a prince or release a dangerous warlord.
