Henry VIII, Charles V, Wolsey, Anne Boleyn and Polydore Vergil appear under their historical identities, while Anthony and the murder are fictional. The novel uses England’s involvement in the Habsburg-Valois wars and the experience of a Black Tudor protagonist to open the Anthony Blanke mysteries.
