In May 1529, the Legatine Court prepares to hear Henry VIII’s case against the validity of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Catherine sends Thomasin to observe the proceedings and report what is said in her absence, placing her close to the legal and political confrontation that will determine the queen’s future. Thomasin must carry out that duty while her own family is threatened by scandal after her married sister becomes pregnant during her husband’s absence.
