Set in the 1660s Caribbean, Galleon continues Ned Yorke's command of the Brethren of the Coast as English Jamaica remains exposed to Spanish hostility. Yorke and his buccaneers cannot afford to remain passive while Spanish shipping, fortified ports and heavily armed galleons carry the wealth and authority of the empire through waters the English are still struggling to hold.

The novel turns that strategic imbalance into a campaign of pursuit, deception and attack. Yorke must judge when a buccaneer fleet can act like a navy and when its independence becomes a liability, especially when prize money and personal ambition compete with the defence of Jamaica. Pope's detailed treatment of sailing, gunnery and boarding gives the adventure a strongly physical sense of seventeenth-century sea warfare, while the larger conflict remains one of rival empires fighting for control of the Caribbean.
