Book
First of the Tudors
First published 2016
Jasper Tudor and his brother Edmund, sons of Catherine of Valois and Owen Tudor, are drawn into the court of their half-brother Henry VI. Granted earldoms and responsibility for the young heiress Margaret Beaufort, they become essential supporters of a fragile Lancastrian monarchy as political rivalry turns into civil war.
Jasper’s story is interwoven with his fictional relationship with the Welshwoman Jane Hywel. After Edmund’s death and the birth of Margaret’s son Henry Tudor, Jasper’s loyalty shifts towards preserving the child’s future through defeat, exile and the brief restoration of Henry VI. The novel interprets the undocumented parts of Jasper’s life around a firmly historical dynastic struggle.
