Richard Cullen is a British author of historical adventure fiction from Leeds, Yorkshire. Before publishing under his own name, he established a career as the fantasy novelist R. S. Ford. His first historical novel, Oath Bound, was longlisted for the Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize and introduced the Wolf of Kings series, set amid the violence and political upheaval of eleventh-century England. It was followed by Shield Breaker and Winter Warrior.
Cullen is also the author of the Chronicles of the Black Lion, beginning with Rebellion and continuing with Crusade and Valour. These novels combine medieval warfare, shifting loyalties and personal vengeance with fast-moving adventure plots. His historical fiction is particularly associated with Norman England, the Crusades and warrior protagonists attempting to survive periods of conquest and dynastic conflict.
