Battle of Kinyeri
18 June 1848
The Battle of Kinyeri was fought on 18 June 1848 during the early Multan rising. Herbert Edwardes combined local levies and allied troops against a force loyal to Dewan Mulraj.
Edwardes's victory helped prevent the rebellion from immediately expanding south and east of Multan. It also demonstrated how political officers and irregular forces shaped the opening stage of the war.
Kinyeri was followed by a second engagement at Sadusam before the conflict developed into a formal siege of Multan.
