Indian Independence Movement
1885–1947 CE
The Indian Independence Movement developed through organisations, campaigns, protests, revolutionary groups and mass politics against British rule. The Indian National Congress, Muslim League, regional movements, labour activism and leaders such as Gandhi, Nehru and Jinnah shaped its course. The movement was diverse, contested and not limited to a single ideology.
It mattered because it brought the Raj to an end and created the modern states of India and Pakistan through independence and partition. The movement also created stories of prison, protest, journalism, family disagreement and political awakening.
Indian independence fiction should prioritise late-colonial politics, prison, protest, journalism, family division and anti-colonial mobilisation. It should not be treated as the same reading path as Mughal court fiction, even though both sit within a wider South Asian historical-fiction structure.
