Anthony Babington

1561–1586

Anthony Babington was an English Catholic gentleman executed in 1586 for his role in a plot to assassinate Elizabeth I and place Mary, Queen of Scots, on the English throne. The exposure of the Babington Plot gave Elizabeth’s government the evidence it used against Mary.
