The Virgin of the Sun

Hubert of Hastings is carried far from medieval Europe into the Andes, where he becomes involved in dynastic conflict within the Inca world. His love for the woman destined to serve as a Virgin of the Sun places him against religious obligations, royal authority and rival claims to power.
The novel is a lost-world romance rather than a strict reconstruction, but it builds its adventure from Inca roads, solar religion, royal descent and the politics of Cusco. It therefore offers a vivid, if highly imaginative, representation of pre-conquest Andean society.
