In 975–976 CE, an old enemy attacks the Oathsworn’s homestead, sinks the Fjord Elk and kills several of Orm’s companions. Although the survivors want immediate revenge, Orm has sworn to protect the pregnant Queen Sigrith and the child whose birth will affect the Swedish succession.
The attacker is allied with Styrbjorn, nephew and rival of King Eirik, who intends to remove the expected heir. Driven into the mountains and pursued across Scandinavia and the southern Baltic, the Oathsworn must defend the queen while Orm confronts the cost of the fame and enemies the brotherhood has accumulated.
