Darcy takes Georgie away from London and proposes marriage, but their plans require royal permission because he is a Roman Catholic and neither of them has much money. Before they can arrange the wedding, Darcy learns that his father has been arrested in Ireland for murdering the American who bought the family castle.
Georgie and Darcy travel to the estate, where the accused man insists that he has been framed. They investigate the new owner’s business dealings, household and enemies, hoping to clear Darcy’s father before the murder charge destroys both the family and the proposed marriage.
