Hannibal of Carthage

Hannibal of Carthage recounts the career of the commander who carried the Second Punic War from Iberia across the Alps and into Italy. The collection follows Hannibal’s preparation for war, his multinational army and elephants, and the victories at the Trebia, Lake Trasimene and Cannae that exposed the vulnerability of the Roman Republic without producing its surrender.

Later sections examine the long Italian campaign, the Roman recovery under commanders including Scipio and the final defeat at Zama. The book is edited by J. K. Jackson and features an introduction by Lindsay Powell, who places Hannibal’s leadership and reputation within the rivalry between Carthage and Rome. The retail series wording formerly included in the title has been moved to the alternative-title field.
