The murder connects to Amelia Carlisle, a notorious baby farmer executed by Warbrick, and to seven witnesses forbidden by the Official Secrets Act from discussing what happened at her death. Sir Gerald Mariner challenges Sarah’s team to solve the case before the police. The inquiry tests her romance with Barrett and exposes how state secrecy can protect both public institutions and private crimes.
