Battle of Sekigahara
1600 CE
The Battle of Sekigahara was fought in 1600 between forces loyal to Tokugawa Ieyasu and a western coalition opposing him. Tokugawa victory decided the struggle for national power after the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It opened the path to the Tokugawa shogunate.
Sekigahara mattered because it ended the long age of civil war and created the political foundation for more than two centuries of Tokugawa rule. The battle is rich in betrayal, calculation and clan survival. It is a natural anchor for novels about samurai loyalty, hostage families, battlefield honour and the cost of choosing the winning side.
