Susanna Gregory is a British author best known for historical crime fiction set in medieval Cambridge and Restoration London. Before becoming a novelist, she worked as a police officer and pursued an academic career that included teaching comparative anatomy and biological anthropology. Her scientific background contributes to the medical detail and investigative methods found throughout her mysteries.

Her long-running Matthew Bartholomew series begins with A Plague on Both Your Houses and follows a fourteenth-century physician investigating murders amid university rivalries, religious disputes and the aftermath of the Black Death. Gregory also created the Thomas Chaloner series, centred on a former spy working in the dangerous political world of Restoration London. Her novels combine intricate mysteries with detailed portrayals of medicine, crime, social unrest and everyday historical life.
