Legends of Camelot

The Legends of Camelot sequence recasts the Arthurian cycle as a historical epic rooted in the collapse of Roman government in Britain. Across the lives of Merlyn Britannicus, Uther Pendragon, Arthur and Lancelot, the novels trace the creation of Camulod, the preservation of Roman law and military discipline, and the struggle to unite British communities against invasion and internal war.

Magic is replaced by engineering, medicine, political calculation and the gradual transformation of events into legend. The sequence moves backwards and forwards through several generations, showing how a colony founded by former Roman soldiers produces the sword Excalibur, the Round Table and the ruler later remembered as King Arthur.
