Emma of Normandy

Emma of Normandy was queen consort of England through her marriages to Æthelred the Unready and Cnut. She was mother of Edward the Confessor and Harthacnut, survived repeated dynastic changes and commissioned the Encomium Emmae Reginae to defend her position and family’s claims.

Emma of Normandy also held the offices or ranks of Queen consort of Denmark. Emma of Normandy belonged to the House of Wessex; House of Knýtlinga and operated within Kingdom of England. Emma of Normandy was born in Normandy and died in Winchester.
