Fall of Granada
1492 CE
The Fall of Granada came after a long campaign by Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile against the Nasrid kingdom. Granada surrendered in January 1492, ending the final Muslim-ruled state in Iberia. The event coincided with major changes in Spanish monarchy, religious policy, and overseas expansion.
The fall matters because it became both an endpoint of medieval Iberian history and a beginning for early modern Spain. It brought promises, capitulations, forced conversions, expulsions, and new pressures on Muslim and Jewish communities. The event also marked the triumph of a more centralised Catholic monarchy.
