Cat Royal

The Cat Royal series follows an orphan raised behind the scenes at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, from Georgian London into revolutionary Paris, the Atlantic world, Jamaica and industrial Scotland. Cat's work among actors, apprentices, aristocrats and street gangs repeatedly places her beside crimes and political conflicts that adults underestimate.

Across six main novels set between 1790 and 1792, the adventures combine mystery and theatre with questions of slavery, freedom, class and identity. Richard Brinsley Sheridan and other historical figures anchor Cat's fictional world as she searches for security, protects her friends and gradually uncovers the truth about her origins.
