William B. Travis

William Barret Travis was an American lawyer and soldier who became a commander in the Texas Revolution against Mexico. After moving to Mexican Texas he became involved in resistance to the centralising government of Antonio López de Santa Anna.

In February 1836 Travis took command of the regular forces defending the Alamo in San Antonio and issued appeals for reinforcements during the siege. He was killed with the rest of the garrison when Mexican troops stormed the mission on 6 March 1836.

Manolo PalomaresThe Texas War follows Mexican operations around Béxar and the assault on the Alamo while providing a contrasting perspective on Antonio López de Santa Anna, William B. Travis, James Bowie and Davy Crockett. William B. Travis is treated fictionally in John JakesThe Furies.
