Apollonius of Rhodes was a Hellenistic Greek poet best known for the Argonautica. Apollonius of Rhodes served as head of the Library of Alexandria. Apollonius of Rhodes is generally dated to 296 BCE–216 BCE.

His epic retells Jason’s voyage for the Golden Fleece with particular attention to geography, scholarship and Medea’s emotional experience. Apollonius of Rhodes was born in Alexandria and died in Rhodes.

In Apollonius of Rhodes’ Jason and the Argonauts, Jason’s adventures are related most fully in Apollonius of Rhodes’s Hellenistic epic the Argonautica . In Apollonius of Rhodes’ The Voyage of Argo, The Voyage of Argo is an English translation of Apollonius of Rhodes’s Argonautica , a Hellenistic Greek epic about Jason, Medea and the Argonauts’ quest for the Golden Fleece.
