Historical person
Abigail Adams
1744–1818
Abigail Adams managed family property through long separations from John Adams and corresponded with him about independence, government, war and women’s legal position. She later served as the second First Lady of the United States and remained an influential member of the Adams political family.
In Barbara Hambly’s Patriot Hearts, Abigail’s marriage, political intelligence and experience of revolution connect domestic life to the public careers of John Adams and the founding generation.
