War of Saint-Sardos

1324–1325 CE

A dispute at Saint-Sardos escalated when Charles IV confiscated the English-held duchy of Aquitaine. French forces rapidly occupied much of Gascony.

Edward II sent Queen Isabella to negotiate, followed by their son Edward to perform homage. Isabella remained in France, joined Roger Mortimer and organised opposition to the Despensers.

The She-Wolf uses the Gascon conflict as the diplomatic opening through which Isabella escapes Edward's court and prepares an invasion of England.
