Recently divorced model Gianetta Brooke retreats to a hotel on the Isle of Skye, only to find that a young woman has been murdered on the slopes of the Cuillin. Bad weather and difficult terrain confine a varied group of visitors and climbers close to the crime while the killer remains unidentified.
Further violence suggests a ritual pattern connected with midsummer and the mountain landscape. Gianetta must reassess the strangers around her, including the former husband she did not expect to meet, as Stewart turns post-war Highland tourism into a closed-circle mystery exposed to mist, rock and rapidly changing weather.
