The Conqueror

AD 312. Brandulf Rex, a young Germanic warrior serving on the Rhine frontier, is recruited as a speculator—part scout, courier and covert agent—for Constantine’s army. In Rome, Junia Flavia conceals her Christian commitment within the household of a senator while Maxentius’s government treats the church as a political threat. Rex’s mission brings him into the capital just as Flavia’s work for the Christian community places her in immediate danger.

As Constantine invades Italy, Rex and Flavia uncover a conspiracy tied to Maxentius’s regime and are forced to rely on one another despite differences of rank, culture and faith. Their flight and investigation run alongside the campaign that culminates at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, where control of the western empire and the future public position of Christianity are decided.
