This omnibus collects the five Sword of Rome novellas following the fictional centurion Lucius Oppius through Julius Caesar’s final campaigns. The sequence begins during the invasion of Britain in 55 BCE, moves to the encirclement at Alesia and then returns to Rome, where Oppius is forced into the arena while Caesar seeks renewed political office.
Rubicon and Pharsalus carry the soldier into civil war as Caesar and Pompey abandon negotiation. Oppius’s private loyalties and desire for revenge intersect with the decisions of Cicero, Mark Antony, Brutus and the rival commanders.
