Historical Heroes

Historical Heroes is a three-volume collection of shorter fiction drawn from Foreman’s recurring worlds. Roman soldiers and spies appear beside a crusading knight, Dick Turpin, Raffles and the Hollywood screenwriter Pat Hobby. The books are not a continuous narrative; they are curated introductions to characters whose longer adventures belong to separate series.

Ancient Rome supplies the most persistent strand, which is why the collection is assigned that primary period, but the individual volumes retain links to their other settings. Across centuries, the stories share a preference for compromised heroes: men celebrated for courage, wit or notoriety who remain vulnerable to pride, debt, desire and political manipulation.
