Munich, 1937. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor arrive in Germany for a carefully staged visit that will culminate in a meeting with Adolf Hitler. After attacks attributed to a militant communist group called Red Freedom, detective Sebastian Wolff is assigned to help protect the royal visitors and the Nazi leadership.
The case becomes personal when Wolff discovers that Ulrike, his former lover and the mother of his son, is connected to the organisation. He must navigate rival security agencies, political theatre and divided loyalties while determining whether the apparent terrorist threat is what the authorities claim.
