Circe

Circe is born in the palace of the sun god Helios, where her mortal-sounding voice and apparent lack of power make her an object of contempt. Drawn towards mortals and dissatisfied with the cruelty of the gods, she discovers an ability to transform the world through herbs and spoken magic. When she uses that power against rivals, her divine family exposes her to Zeus and she is condemned to exile on the island of Aiaia.

Isolation gives Circe the freedom to develop her witchcraft, but it does not remove her from the struggles of gods and heroes. Her life intersects with Daedalus, the Minotaur, Medea and the creation of Scylla before Odysseus arrives after the Trojan War. Their relationship, and the danger that later surrounds Circe's son, forces her to defend a household of her own and decide whether immortality is worth the obedience demanded by the divine order.
