Phil Earle

Phil Earle is a British author of children’s and young-adult fiction, born and raised in Hull. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a care worker in a children’s home, a dramatherapist, a bookseller and a publisher. These experiences helped shape novels such as Being Billy, Saving Daisy and Heroic, which examine family difficulties, emotional resilience and the pressures faced by young people.

Earle is particularly known for historical adventures that place children and animals amid the dangers of wartime Britain. When the Sky Falls, inspired by a true story about a boy and a zoo’s silverback gorilla during the Blitz, won the British Book Award for Children’s Fiction and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. It was followed by the Second World War novels While the Storm Rages and Until the Road Ends, while The Dawn of Adonis moves to Edwardian London and follows a girl attempting to rescue a smuggled baby gorilla.
