Faith L. Justice

Faith L. Justice is an American author of historical fiction, speculative short stories and children’s books. Based in Brooklyn, New York, she has worked in fields including law, information systems, human resources, teaching and freelance writing. Her interest in history is supported by archaeological fieldwork and extensive research, and she has held leadership roles within the New York City chapter of the Historical Novel Society.

Justice’s historical novels concentrate particularly on women in the later Roman Empire. Her Theodosian Women series—Twilight Empress, Dawn Empress and Rebel Empress—follows Galla Placidia, Pulcheria and Aelia Eudocia during the division and transformation of Roman imperial power. She has also written Selene of Alexandria, set amid the religious and intellectual conflicts of fifth-century Egypt, and Sword of the Gladiatrix, about female arena fighters in the first-century Roman world. Her fiction combines political upheaval, religious conflict and carefully researched depictions of women whose influence has often been understated in conventional histories.
