Elodie Harper is an English author and journalist best known for historical fiction centred on women whose experiences are often overlooked in traditional accounts of the ancient world. Before becoming a full-time novelist, she worked as a reporter for ITV News and as a producer for Channel 4. Her early novels, The Binding Song and The Death Knock, were contemporary crime thrillers, but she achieved wider recognition with The Wolf Den, the first volume of a trilogy set among enslaved women in ancient Pompeii. The novel won the Glass Bell Award and was shortlisted at the British Book Awards.

The trilogy continues with The House with the Golden Door and The Temple of Fortuna, following Amara as she attempts to escape exploitation and secure power within the dangerous social hierarchy of Roman society. Harper combines detailed historical research with fast-moving plots and a particular interest in female friendship, survival and ambition. Her later novel Boudicca’s Daughter turns to Roman Britain and reimagines the aftermath of Boudicca’s rebellion through the experience of the defeated queen’s daughter.
