Fourth Anglo-Mysore War

The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War brought the East India Company, allied Indian powers and British forces into final conflict with Tipu Sultan of Mysore. The campaign followed earlier wars, diplomatic pressure and British fear that Mysore could become a centre of French influence in India.

The war mattered because it ended Tipu Sultan’s rule and broke Mysore as an independent military power capable of challenging the Company in southern India. The fall of Seringapatam changed the balance of power and opened a new phase of British territorial control.
