The Mithridatic Wars were fought between Rome and Mithridates VI of Pontus across the first century BC. Mithridates challenged Roman power in Asia Minor, exploited resentment against Roman rule, and built alliances across the eastern Mediterranean. The wars involved Sulla, Lucullus, Pompey, and a series of campaigns that stretched Roman resources and politics.
