Leif Erikson was a Norse explorer associated with the first known European settlement in North America. The Icelandic sagas describe voyages from Greenland to Vinland around the year 1000, though details of leadership and routes differ between traditions.

Leif Erikson was born in Eiríksstaðir and died in Brattahlíð. Norse sagas credit Leif with voyaging west from Greenland to a land called Vinland around the year 1000, usually associated with North America; archaeological evidence at L’Anse aux Meadows confirms a Norse presence in the region even though saga details remain debated.
