Funeral in Berlin
Berlin, 1963. A British intelligence officer is ordered to arrange the defection of a Soviet scientist from East Berlin. The plan depends on Colonel Stok, a formidable Soviet security officer, and on an elaborate route across the heavily controlled border. Every participant appears to be bargaining for something beyond the stated exchange.
The mission unfolds against the Berlin Wall, where bureaucracy, divided loyalties and physical geography make deception unusually dangerous. As the supposed defection develops, the agent must test the promises of allies and adversaries alike, knowing that the operation may be designed to expose a different target altogether.
