Manasseh

Manasseh is a biblical patriarchal figure presented as the elder son of Joseph and Asenath and the brother of Ephraim. Manasseh is generally dated to Traditional chronology: 16th–15th century BCE.

In Genesis, Jacob unexpectedly gives the greater blessing to the younger Ephraim, but Manasseh still becomes the ancestor of a major Israelite tribe whose territories and branches play important roles in later biblical narratives. Manasseh is the elder son of Joseph and Asenath whose descendants are identified with one of the tribes of Israel.

In Angela Hunt’s Journey, Manasseh expects his position as Joseph’s elder son to secure his place among both Egyptians and Hebrews, but Jacob’s blessing gives precedence to the younger Ephraim.
