Ephraim is a biblical patriarchal figure presented as the younger son of Joseph and Asenath and the brother of Manasseh. In Genesis, Jacob gives Ephraim the greater blessing despite his younger status, and the name later becomes attached to one of the most powerful tribes of Israel.
In prophetic and historical books, ‘Ephraim’ can also stand for the northern kingdom as a whole. Ephraim is the younger son of Joseph and Asenath whose descendants are identified with one of the tribes of Israel.
