The Kamigata Scroll
First published 2026
In 1760s Osaka, the tile-maker Gingorō and his servant Taichi undertake a dangerous mission to enter the closed Awa domain and discover what happened to a spy who vanished ten years earlier. The pickpocket Otsuna and the detective Mankichi pursue connected secrets, while Awa’s agents attempt to silence everyone who asks questions.
The swordsman-monk Norizuki Gennojō is drawn into the conflict as prisoners, money and fragments of evidence move through the canals and roads of the Kamigata. The opening volume establishes a conspiracy whose reach depends on the Tokugawa system of domains, travel controls and concealed political loyalties.
