Scotland, 1296. Newly knighted Andrew Moray joins the army resisting Edward I’s invasion, only to be captured after the Scottish defeat and carried to an English prison. His escape returns him to a northern country occupied by English garrisons, with his family’s lands seized and his betrothed forced into hiding.
Moray retakes his own castle and raises rebellion across the north, gathering men who have little reason to trust that another rising can succeed. As he moves towards alliance with William Wallace, the novel follows the campaign that culminates at Stirling Bridge and restores organised resistance to English rule.
