Battle for Hue

by Michael G. Thomas Book 8 in the Black Ops Vietnam: Anzacs series.

First published 2025

4.2(130)

During the Tet Offensive, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces seize much of Huế and isolate the defenders of the old imperial city. South of the Perfume River, Jackman and a small team of Australian and American advisers join ARVN troops fighting to recover the southern districts. North of the river, defenders inside the Citadel and Mang Cá Garrison struggle to hold their positions while ammunition and communications fail.

Battle for Hue moves the series from jungle and rural operations into sustained urban warfare. Streets, houses, temples and market buildings become fortified positions, and every advance carries the risk of sniper fire and mortar attack. The novel uses the historical battle to show the destruction of a major Vietnamese city and the courage of South Vietnamese troops whose role is often overshadowed in accounts centred on American forces.
