Amy Licence

Amy Licence is a British historian, journalist, teacher and author whose work concentrates on medieval and Tudor England. She has a particular interest in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, especially queenship, gender, marriage, childbirth, religious belief and the lives of women from royal courts to ordinary households. Her historical writing has appeared in publications including The Guardian, The Times Literary Supplement and BBC History Magazine, and she has contributed to radio and television programmes about the period.

Licence has written numerous historical biographies and studies, including Red Roses, The Lost Kings and In Bed with the Tudors. She is also the author of historical fiction, beginning with Son of York, which follows Edward of York and his family during the opening stages of the Wars of the Roses. Across both her fiction and non-fiction, Licence examines political ambition, dynastic rivalry and private experience, with particular attention to people whose lives have often been simplified or overlooked in traditional historical accounts.
